Planning A Wedding On A Budget
Weddings can be VERY expensive, but if you cut costs in little ways, it will make a massive difference to your overall expensive. You may just need a bit of guidance and a few tips to help you achieve the dream of your big day. Here are a few suggestions on how you can save money on some of the more expensive aspects of a wedding.
The Wedding Dress:
The first dress I tried on, I bought. Between trying it on and buying it, i did of course look around and try on lots more styles and colours, but I came back to the first one. What is funny is that it was not an actual wedding dress! I bought it in an evening wear shop, and because it was not an actual wedding dress, it was a lot cheaper. It may be worth looking around the shops in your town that stock debs and bridesmaid dresses in case they happen to have one that you love!
You could also consider renting your wedding dress for the day instead of buying it.
The Reception
The reception is normally the biggest expense. Try and keep your guest list to a minimum, do you really need to invite family members who you have never seen for years? Instead of a three-course meal why not opt for a hot and cold buffet? Instead of holding the reception in an expensive hotel suite or wedding reception, why not consider having it at someones home or a club, or even book a restaurant.
The Photographer
Of all the things that you are going to have to pay for on the day, in my opinion the photographer is the most worth while expense. Your photos and video (if you have somebody filming) are what you are going to be looking back over in the years to come. If you have any extra cash to spend, I would personally recommend investing it in your photographer. Shop around for the best price. If you know anyone that does filming, see if they would be available for the day.
The Invitations
I could not believe the price of wedding invites when I started looking into getting them! In the end, I made them myself! If you are anyway crafty, they are not difficult. You can find plenty of examples online and print them off yourself if you want to save the expense.
The Flowers
I was determined not to pay through the roof for flowers as they would be dead and shriveled a few days after the wedding! A family friend did them for me at a great price. Shop around. You can get flowers cheaper by wholesale and do up the bouquets yourself.
There is no doubt about it, weddings are expensive and require alot of planning. While trying to stick to a budget, make sure that you are not creating too much work for yourself. Get as many people to help as you can. It will relieve the pressure on the day. The last thing you want to do it be up late the night before stressing about flowers or church music or seating arrangements!
Enjoy the planning!
